At this month’s City Council meeting, many Aldermen expressed their frustration with the delay in getting Blue Carts in their wards. As residents of Ukrainian Village, we know all too well about this frustration. Our neighborhood is literally surrounded by Blue Cart Recycling and we are still waiting.
Alderman Tom Allen of the 38th Ward introduced a resolution pushing for the expansion for Blue Cart Recycling citywide by September 1st, stating that recycling collection should be a regular part of City services, like street sweeping and garbage collection (see Chicago Tribune and Huffington Post). But because of the continued budget problems in the City, it is still difficult to say whether or not Blue Cart expansion will happen this year. You can help show the City that we really need recycling in our neighborhood.
There is ONE WEEK LEFT of the Neighborhood Paper Drive! The results of the the two-week Paper Drive will inform the City on resident participation with recycling programs and could help bring recycling to our neighborhood. Support recycling in our neighborhood and raise funds for UVNA in the process!
Do you know any organizations or businesses who want to help? Use this flyer and let them know about UVNA’s Paper Drive.
