The Ukrainian Village Street Sweeping Schedule is Out for 2011

Street Cleaning

Street cleaning will start up again on April 1st, 2011 and run through November 2011.

During street cleaning days, vehicles cannot park on designated street in order to accommodate the street sweeper. Please always make sure to watch out for orange signs on your block so that you know when your street will be swept.

  • Please help us keep drains and curbs as clear as possible and remove any winter debris and leaves from sewer drain covers. to prevent clogging the drains.
  • Leaves and winter debris may NOT be raked into the street for the street sweeper.
  • Please bag leaves and place them next to your trash bins. Massive piles of debris ruin the street sweeper brushes and cause breakdowns.

Ukrainian Village falls within sections 17 and 18 of the 32nd Ward with regards to the street sweeping schedule. Click here for a map of the the sections within the 32nd ward.   The streets within Ukrainian Village that are north of Augusta Boulevard fall within section 17 and those south of August fall within section 18.

  • Section 17 – Street Sweeping Schedule for 2011:
    • May 19th and 20th
    • July 12th and 13th
    • August 31st & September 1st

Bite Cafe in Ukrainian Village Re-Opens on Wednesday 3/23

You may or may not have ever noticed the small restaurant next to The Empty Bottle on Western Avenue here in Ukrainian Village, but if you have ever bothered to stop in, you know the food has always been as tasty as the decor was a bit funky.  Bite Cafe re-opens this week and the owner, Bruce Finkelman- who also owns Longman & Eagle up in Logan Square – talked to the writers of the Dish dining column for Chicago Magazine.  Finkelman and the new chef , Rodney Stanton (Spiaggia, Topolobampo, Bouchon and Longman & Eagle) discussed what’s changing and what’s staying the same at Bite Cafe.  Read the interview here.

The Empty Bottle: Earthquake Relief Donations & Japan Nite

japan nite poster 2011

From The Empty Bottle’s website:

To help with relief efforts in Northern Japan following March 11th’s devastating earthquake and ensuing tsunami, the Empty Bottle invites its fans to make a $5 donation to the American Red Cross when buying tickets online. Those who donate will be given a free drink ticket for a domestic draft beer upon entering. We will be donating 10% of our ticket sales to the Red Cross, as well as leaving donation receptacles at the bar encouraging patrons (and staff!) to donate as they see fit.

Japan Nite – now in it’s fourth year at the Empty Bottle brings together a diverse group of Japanese bands to the stage on Western Avenue.

Kicking off in Austin, TX for SXSW, Benton Records’ “Japan Night” US Tour 11 features four of the hottest bands on the planet. Japan Nite started at SXSW 1996 with two Japanese bands and all girl punk band LOLITA NO. 18 was one of them. We’ve been hosting the Tour stops in Chicago since 08 and we’re excited to welcome arguably one of the greatest and most important bands in Japan, MO’SOME TONEBENDER, the all girl soul blues band ZUKUNASHISISTERS and post punk glam rock from HYSTOIC VEIN.

Stop by, make a donation, have a drink or three, and rock out Japan Nite-style!
