West Chicago Township is now open for appeals with the Cook County Board of Review through May 17, 2011. Neighborhoods that are included in the West Chicago Township are Bucktown, Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village.
Alderman Scott Waugespack and Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi are hosting a property tax seminar this week. At this seminar, homeowners will learn how to appeal their property assessment and potentially lower their property tax bills. The seminar will be held onWednesday, May 4th at 6:00 PM at Holstein Park (2200 N. Oakley Avenue).
The presentation will explain how to file an appeal and how an appeal is granted. Attendees are asked to bring their property tax bills in order to more efficiently file an appeal. Staff from Commissioner Cabonargi’s office will be available to answer questions and help complete appeal forms. The only requirement for a taxpayer to appeal a property assessment is a completed complaint form filed before the township appeal period closes on May 17th.
If you cannot make it on May 4th, you may call or stop by Alderman Waugespack’s office for assistance. You may also drop off completed forms at the Alderman’s office until the morning of May 16th -they will turn them into the Board of Review for you.
