The next public hearing on citywide redistricting will be tomorrow night Wednesday, January 11, at 6:00 p.m. at DePaul University’s Cortelyou Commons located at 2324 N. Fremont Street. Metered parking is generally available on Halsted, Sheffield or Fullerton. You can also park in the Sheffield Parking Garage, 2331 N. Sheffield. There is limited parking available on side streets, and much of the area is residential permit parking only so please read all the signs when parking.
There are presently THREE competing maps that redraw the city wards. The census determines the number of people in each ward, but aldermen, through the competing maps and with community input, determine where the boundaries are to be located.
After six public hearings around the city in the late part of 2011, there will be at least four additional hearings in the next few weeks. The first is at DePaul’s Lincoln Park campus on January 11th.
If you do attend the public hearings on the remapping and you wish to make a statement about the map as an individual or by representing an organization, you can make that statement during the meeting or handing in a written statement at the meeting. You can also submit your statement to Ald. Mell:
