Have You Taken This Survey for the 13th District Station?

Since February, a 5 person group of volunteers has been working with the 1st Ward office  to ensure that what goes into the space where the 13th District Police Station currently is,  will be what the community wants.  Alderman Moreno has already secured an $800,000 commitment from various entities to develop the site.

  • He previously fielded a survey and received 450 responses. Now, he have a new survey with modified and fresh questions.
  • Since he has a firm timeline for demolition of the building, he is asking that community members complete this 2nd survey (even if you filled out version 1) and pass it around so the results can be analyzed and your voice heard.

Tuesday 8/7 is National Night Out!

August 7th, 2012 is National Night Out!

National Night Out is an event that unites the police, citizens, businesses, and local officials in the fight against crime. It is designed to strengthen local police/community partnerships and increase participation in local anticrime programs. This sends a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Come meet your local officers as well as take part in all of the events planned!

The 13th police district is holding their event at the Institute of Puerto Rican Art and Culture at 3015 W. Division from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Events include a car show with judging at 7pm, Jesse White Tumblers, Police K-9 unit, food and refreshments, jumping jack for the kids, and the police mounted unit. Come to the 13th District Safe & Sound and CAPS Appreciation Night

WHEN: Friday, April 27th 2012 6:00 -8:00pm

WHERE: Smith Park, 2526 W. Grand Avenue

A special forum to discuss safety issues for residents, a martial arts/self-defense demonstration, and to celebrate CAPS Partnership Day! There will be awards given along with food and prizes!

Keeping It Real March 24th: Chicago Police Community Forum

This Saturday (3/24)  there will be a Keepin’ It Real Forum focusing on gang members and drug dealers. These forums are  intended to be respectful Q&A sessions between convicted gang members and drug dealers who volunteered for this event and the community. The individuals will share there stories in an effort to help the community be better informed and prepared for this type of activity in our neighborhoods.
This Keepin’ It Real forum is a partnership between the Chicago Police Department and the Safer Foundation that connects youth and their guardians with correctional facilities inmates for the purpose of
providing the “real” story on inmate life and the pitfalls that parents and youth can avoid. Hear the ‘real story’ from drug dealers and gang members.

Keepin’ It Real is an educational series whereby offenders dealing with a specific type of crime share their stories as part of their community service hours in hopes of helping the general community be better informed and prepared.
